About

The takin ; is a large species of ungulate of the subfamily Caprinae found in the eastern Himalayas. It includes four subspecies, the Mishmi takin, the golden takin, the Tibetan takin, and the Bhutan takin.

Fun Fact

Takin produce an oily, strong-smelling substance from their skin that waterproofs their shaggy coat in the misty Himalayan bamboo forests, and the substance smells so strong that some researchers describe it as unforgettable.
