The red wolf is a canine native to the southeastern United States. Its size is intermediate between the coyote and gray wolf.

Fun Fact

Red wolves are the world's most endangered canid, with only about 20 remaining in the wild in eastern North Carolina — they were declared extinct in the wild in 1980 before being reintroduced from captive stock.
