Habitat

Found in the eastern slopes of the southern Sierra Nevada and in other desert mountain ranges, including the Panamint, Argus, Inyo, White, Clark, Granite, Kingston, Providence, and Mescal ranges.

Diet

Feeds mainly on seeds and fruits (granivorous), particularly pinyon nuts and juniper berries, but also eats willow catkins, green vegetation, insects, lichens, bark, and occasionally carrion.
