About

The red-eared slider is a semi-aquatic turtle native to the south-central and southeastern United States and northern Mexico. It gets its name from the small red or orange stripe behind each eye. It is the most popular pet turtle in the world and has become an invasive species in many regions due to pet releases. It can reach 30 cm (12 in) in shell length.

Fun Fact

They typically live between 20–30 years, although some individuals can live for more than 40 years.
