About

The Komodo dragon is the largest living species of lizard, found on several islands in Indonesia. Adults commonly measure 2.6 m (8.5 ft) and weigh around 70 kg (150 lb), though the largest verified specimen was 3.13 m (10.3 ft) and weighed 166 kg (366 lb). It is an apex predator, dominating the ecosystems in which it lives. The Komodo dragon hunts by ambush, using its powerful jaws and venomous bite to subdue prey.

Fun Fact

Komodo dragons are the largest living lizards, reaching 3 metres and 70 kg, and their saliva contains venom that lowers blood pressure and prevents clotting — prey that escapes an initial bite often collapses from shock within hours.
