The European ratsnake, also known commonly as the leopard snake, is a species of nonvenomous snake belonging to the subfamily Colubrinae of the family Colubridae. This species is native to southeastern Europe and western Anatolia.

The European ratsnake was first formally described as "Coluber Situla" by Carl Linnaeus in the 10th edition of Systema Naturae published in 1758.
