The austral canastero is a species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is found in Argentina and Chile.
Fun Fact
Before the middle of the twentieth century, the austral canastero was bounced around several genera but since then has almost universally been placed in Asthenes.
Habitat
Occurs in more open scrublands with less tussock grass and Nothofagus woodlands.
Diet
Feeds on arthropods.
