About

The white-backed vulture is an Old World vulture in the family Accipitridae, which also includes eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks. It is the most common vulture species in the continent of Africa.

Fun Fact

White-backed vultures can strip a zebra carcass to bare bone in under 30 minutes when feeding in large groups, and their highly acidic stomachs (pH ~1) destroy anthrax, botulism, and cholera bacteria.
