The large-tailed antshrike is a species of bird in subfamily Thamnophilinae of family Thamnophilidae, the "typical antbirds". It is found in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

However, a 2012 publication documented a record in northeastern Uruguay, and the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society accepted the record.
